All donations to UncommonGood’s inaugural event benefit the day-to-day work and guiding mission of Breast Cancer Alliance. Founded by six women dedicated to improving the outcomes of breast cancer patients, Breast Cancer Alliance has been a trailblazer in the field for 25 years, funding fellowships for surgeons’ innovative breast cancer research, as well as providing on-the-ground support to patients and families impacted by the disease today.
Too often, women must choose between their health and costs for preventative care that they can’t afford. This might have been the case for a 35-year-old woman who presented to BCA’s Early Detection Program with a “suspicious lump,” one that necessitated a high-cost — and potentially life-saving — biopsy procedure. Because of the grant funding offered by Breast Cancer Alliance, this woman was able to receive her procedure, diagnosis, and treatment, and eliminate the difficult and unnecessary cost barrier to care. BCA helped her prioritize her health above all else — just one of the many people supported each day through the organization’s offerings.

This event is made possible through a partnership with browngrotta arts, in honor of their Art for a Cause 2021 project. Starting June 2, 2021, you can enter to win Lia Cook’s piece, “Spatial Ikat III-2.” This unique piece was designed to “envelop the viewer” by creating the illusion of massive threads moving over and under one another. Not only has Cook’s body of work been featured in dozens of exhibitions worldwide, but her art can also be found in dozens of museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art.
This incredible piece of museum-quality art, along with the cash prize, are valued at over $42,000; it’s truly an opportunity of a lifetime for art lovers and do-gooders alike.
